Air Transat Ranked Among World’s Lowest-emissions Airlines

Canadian airline Air Transat has earned a spot on a newly released global ranking of the top 20 commercial carriers with the lowest carbon emissions intensity, placing 15th overall.

The data comes from a flight emissions report published this month by aviation analytics firm Cirium, which was independently verified by consulting giant PwC. The rankings were based on grams of CO2 emitted per available seat kilometre (ASK)—a key measure of emissions intensity that reflects factors such as aircraft fuel efficiency, seat density, and route optimization.

With an emissions rate of 61.5 grams of CO2 per ASK, Air Transat was the only Canadian airline to make the list.

At the top of the rankings was Hungary’s Wizz Air, with just 53.9 g CO2 per ASK, followed by Frontier Airlines in the U.S. (54.4 g) and Pegasus Airlines of Türkiye (57.1 g).

“Airlines operating newer, fuel-efficient aircraft with higher seat density tend to perform best,” Cirium noted in its report, which analyzed the top 100 global carriers for operational efficiency and sustainability practices.
