Explosion Outside Punjab BJP Office In Chandigarh, No Injuries Reported

A suspicious explosion outside the Punjab BJP office in Chandigarh’s Sector 37 on Wednesday evening has triggered a major security response, with police and forensic teams launching an investigation into the incident.

According to Chandigarh Police sources, the blast occurred around 5 PM near the party office. Preliminary findings suggest that two unidentified individuals arrived on a two-wheeler, allegedly hurled a crude improvised explosive device (IED), and fled the scene shortly after.

Police teams quickly reached the location and cordoned off the area. Investigators have recovered shrapnel fragments from the site, which are now being examined to determine the exact nature of the explosive used.

The explosion caused property damage, including shattered windowpanes of a nearby car and splinter damage to two scooters. Authorities confirmed that the device used was a crude bomb and not a grenade.

A team from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) has been deployed to collect evidence and assist in the probe, while Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel have been stationed at the site to strengthen security.

Senior police officials, including Chandigarh’s Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardip Kaur, visited the scene to assess the situation.

Punjab BJP leader Vineet Joshi said that a loud explosion followed by smoke created panic in the area. He also raised concerns over the timing of the incident, noting that senior party leadership had been present at the office in recent days.

Authorities stated that there was no prior intelligence input indicating a specific threat to the BJP office. No casualties or injuries have been reported so far.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited.
