Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney held a bilateral conversation with Netherlands Prime Minister Rob Jetten on Tuesday, strengthening diplomatic engagement between the two countries.

During the call, Prime Minister Carney congratulated Prime Minister Jetten on his recent swearing-in, marking the beginning of his leadership in the Netherlands.

Both leaders emphasized the strong and longstanding relationship between Canada and the Netherlands, rooted in shared democratic values, economic cooperation, and security partnerships.

The discussion focused on expanding collaboration in key strategic sectors, including critical minerals, energy, and digital and emerging technologies—areas seen as vital to both countries’ economic resilience and future growth.

Defence cooperation was also a major point of discussion. The two leaders explored opportunities to deepen collaboration through initiatives such as the European Union’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) and the Joint Expeditionary Force, reinforcing their commitment to collective security.

On global issues, both prime ministers expressed concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East and stressed the urgent need for de-escalation. They also discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine, underlining the importance of continued international support and strong security guarantees.
