Toronto police investigate smash-and-grab robbery at Scarborough jewelry store in Golden Mile area

Jan 2025: Toronto police are looking into a smash-and-grab robbery that occurred at a jewelry store in Scarborough’s Golden Mile area. The robbery took place at the Golden Mile Shopping Centre, located at the corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Victoria Park Avenue.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 3:30 p.m. when they received reports of suspects using hammers to break the glass at the jewelry store. The suspects then fled in a vehicle, heading in an unknown direction. A store owner from a nearby shop said he heard loud banging and glass breaking during the robbery. He saw the suspects running, security chasing after them, and some bystanders trying to help.

He mentioned seeing what appeared to be a replica firearm and at least two hammers in the suspects’ possession. Witnesses reported that three suspects smashed the glass at a Daniel Jewellery kiosk in the mall, near a dollar store. The amount of items stolen and whether anyone was injured is still unclear. The shopping centre is still open as police continue their investigation.
