U.S. President Donald Trump has signalled a major escalation in the ongoing Iran war, warning that American forces will intensify strikes over the next two to three weeks despite claiming that key objectives have already been achieved.
In his latest remarks, Trump said the U.S. would hit Iran “extremely hard” and vowed to bring the country “back to the Stone Ages,” underscoring an aggressive shift in tone as the conflict deepens.
The comments come even as the president maintains that U.S. military goals have largely been met, raising questions among analysts about the rationale for continued operations.
The conflict is already having significant global economic consequences. Oil prices surged sharply following Trump’s remarks, with Brent crude jumping more than six per cent and U.S. benchmark crude also posting major gains.
Rising fuel costs are beginning to ripple through the global economy, with analysts warning that higher transportation and production costs could soon drive up prices for everyday goods, including food.
Meanwhile, tensions remain high on the ground. Iran has continued to restrict traffic through the Strait of Hormuz — a critical global oil route — with shipping volumes reportedly down by as much as 94 per cent compared to last year.
Iranian officials have also issued strong warnings against any potential U.S. ground invasion, claiming that millions of citizens are prepared to defend the country if necessary.
International concern is growing, with leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron cautioning that a military solution to reopen key shipping routes is “unrealistic” and emphasizing the need for diplomatic negotiations.
As the war continues to escalate, its impact is being felt far beyond the region — from disrupted global trade routes to rising energy prices and increasing geopolitical uncertainty.
