Ottawa, Ontario – October 20, 2025: Prime Minister Mark Carney has extended his warmest wishes to Canadians and communities worldwide celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
“From candles to diyas, Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness, of good over evil,” Carney said, recognising the festival’s enduring message of hope and renewal.
He emphasised that Diwali serves as a reminder of the power of unity and community. “As families, friends, and communities gather, Diwali is a powerful reminder of the strength of unity – the power of community to overcome challenges, together,” he noted.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged the significant contributions of Canadians from Hindu, Jain, Sikh, and Buddhist faiths, describing them as “deeply woven into our cultural fabric.”
“As Canadians celebrate Diwali, it’s our responsibility and privilege to find the light of service and generosity, and let it shine on all,” Carney added.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, he wished everyone celebrating a happy and joyous Diwali.
