The 2025 Oscars dazzled with an unforgettable evening of glamour and excitement. The musical Emilia Pérez led the nominations with an impressive 13 nods, ultimately taking home two awards. Both The Brutalist and Wicked garnered 10 nominations each, with The Brutalist securing three wins and Wicked claiming two.
However, the spotlight truly shone on the independent film Anora. Starring Mikey Madison, Anora took home the most Oscars of the night—five in total, including the coveted Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress awards.
Among other remarkable winners were Kieran Culkin, who won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, and Zoe Saldaña, who earned the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Emilia Pérez.
In technical categories, Dune: Part Two was awarded Best Sound, while No Other Land claimed Best Documentary Film. The Only Girl in the Orchestra triumphed in the Best Documentary Short Film category. The Best Original Song Oscar went to El Mal from Emilia Pérez, while The Journey from The Six Triple Eight and Like A Bird from Sing Sing also received notable recognition.
Wicked took home top honors for Best Production Design and Best Costume Design. Anora dominated the editing category, winning Best Editing, while The Substance was awarded Best Makeup and Hairstyling. Conclave earned Best Adapted Screenplay, and Anora claimed another win for Best Original Screenplay, with Sean Baker receiving the honor.
In the animated film categories, Flow won Best Animated Film, and In the Shadow of the Cypress was recognized as the Best Animated Short Film.
A historic moment also unfolded with Paul Tazewell becoming the first Black man in history to win the Oscar for Best Costume Design for Wicked, adding a significant milestone to the evening.
In a night full of surprises and standout performances, Anora truly stood out as the evening’s biggest winner, taking home the most prestigious awards and cementing its place as the standout film of the 2025 Oscars.
