Alia Bhatt, Sharvari Starrer ‘Alpha’ Looks To Sustain Momentum From Strong Opening Weekend

Alpha has posted a strong opening weekend at the global box office, earning an estimated ₹58.8 crore worldwide despite receiving mixed reviews from critics.

According to early trade estimates, the spy thriller collected ₹34 crore India nett over its first three days, with Sunday’s earnings rising to ₹13.25 crore, a 15 per cent increase over Saturday. The film’s India gross reached ₹40.8 crore, while overseas markets contributed an additional ₹18 crore, taking its worldwide total close to the ₹60-crore mark.

The film marks the first female-led installment in the YRF Spy Universe, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles. The cast also features Bobby Deol as the antagonist, Anil Kapoor in a key role, and a special appearance by Hrithik Roshan, reprising his character Kabir from the War franchise.

Released across 7,534 screens in India, Alpha recorded improving occupancy through the weekend, with strong turnout at metro multiplexes helping offset weather-related disruptions in cities such as Mumbai and Delhi.

While reviews have been divided, trade analysts say the film’s weekday performance—particularly Monday’s collections—will determine whether it can maintain momentum at the box office.

Filmmaker Karan Johar praised the film’s theatrical performance, saying audiences had looked beyond online criticism and reaffirmed the appeal of big-screen entertainment. Industry observers say Alpha‘s opening demonstrates continued audience interest in large-scale franchise films despite mixed critical reception.
