Aruna Anand has officially announced her candidacy for Councillor in Ward 5, bringing over two decades of community involvement, professional experience, and local advocacy to the table.
Anand has been actively engaged in the community since 2001, when she began her career with RBC at the Airport and Derry branch. Since then, she has built a strong connection with residents, businesses, and community organizations across the Ward.
Anand is a mother, entrepreneur, and community builder, currently serving as Vice Chair for Community Around Family Table and the founder of Fuelling Healthy Minds, an initiative that has provided over 550,000 meals to children in need across the community. Her work has focused on supporting families, strengthening community ties, and ensuring youth have the resources they need to succeed.
“I am running to be a Councillor because I believe Ward 5 deserves a strong and responsive leader who understands both the challenges and the opportunities in our community,” said Aruna Anand. “My goal is to bridge businesses and the community to create meaningful pathways for our youth, strengthen local partnerships, and ensure every resident feels supported and heard.”
Her campaign is focused on improving public safety, streamlining access to city services, supporting local businesses, and addressing youth unemployment. Anand is committed to working closely with the more than 10,000 businesses in Ward 5 to help create opportunities for young people through employment and work-integrated learning initiatives.
She also aims to simplify municipal processes for residents, making it easier to navigate permits, bylaws, and city services, while ensuring the community is secure and accessible.
Anand’s vision is to build a clean, safe, and prosperous Ward 5 by bringing together residents, businesses, and community partners to deliver a lasting, positive change.
