Body of missing Markham realtor, Yuk-Ying Mui, found in Parry Sound; three youths charged with weapon and fraud offences

22 August: The body of a missing Markham woman, 56-year-old Yuk-Ying (Anita) Mui, has been discovered in Parry Sound, according to York Regional Police. With the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), human remains found on August 12 were confirmed to be those of Mui, who was reported missing by her family on August 9 after last being heard from at 11 a.m. that day.

Police located Mui’s white 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 SUV in a Scarborough parking lot near Finch Avenue East and Warden Avenue on the afternoon of August 9, the same day she went missing. Three days later, on August 12, OPP officers discovered Mui’s burned remains in the area of Avro Arrow Road and Highway 400 in McDougall Township.

Mui had left her Markham home near Baycliffe Road and Warden Avenue around 9:30 a.m. on August 9, reportedly heading to work. Stephen Chow, president of Century 21 Atria Realty Inc. and a longtime colleague of Mui, said that one of Mui’s adult sons spoke to her at 11 a.m., but attempts to reach her later that day were unsuccessful.

Three male youths—two 17-year-olds from Whitby and Toronto, and a 16-year-old from Toronto—have been charged with weapon and fraud offences. Although they have not been charged in relation to Mui’s death, the youths were found in possession of property belonging to her. Police believe this was a targeted incident and are currently searching for a “vehicle of interest,” described as a white 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van, which they believe may have been used to transport Mui.

York police have previously searched a rural property on Vandorf Sideroad in Whitchurch-Stouffville, where Mui was scheduled to visit on the day she went missing. Police are urging any witnesses who may have seen or have footage of the vehicle of interest in the area of 3821 Vandorf Sideroad or in Parry Sound between August 9 and August 12 to come forward.

Mui was a prominent real estate broker in the Toronto area, known for her luxury listings and involvement in the Chinese-Canadian business community. She was recognized for her active participation in fundraisers and galas, often appearing alongside Canadian MPs, Ontario ministers, and mayors. In 2017, she was identified on social media as the president of the Toronto Paragon Lions Club.

The investigation into Mui’s death remains ongoing.
