City of Brampton celebrates residents shaping community through 2025 Citizen Awards

Annual program honours local impact across sports, arts and community service

Stories of dedication, leadership and local impact took centre stage as the City of Brampton recognized the 2025 Citizen Awards recipients on May 7, celebrating residents whose contributions continue to shape daily life across the city.

For more than five decades, the Citizen Awards program has highlighted the people behind Brampton’s progress. Since 1974, over 3,500 residents have been recognized for contributions spanning sports, arts and community service, each leaving a lasting mark on neighbourhoods and communities.

This year’s recipients reflect achievements in 2025 across the following categories, each named an Excellency winner in their field:

The Sports Achievement Award recognizes athletic accomplishments at the provincial, national or international level.
2025 Recipient: Brampton Canadettes U15A (Team)

The Ken Giles Amateur Athlete of the Year Award, presented in partnership with the Brampton Guardian, recognizes exceptional achievement at the amateur level.
2025 Recipient: Muhammad Mudassar, Spirit Para Sports Association

The Arts Acclaim Award recognizes individuals or groups whose work has earned significant recognition and contributed to the arts community.
2025 Recipient: Brampton Children’s Chorus

The Long-Term Service Award honours dedicated volunteers who have made lasting contributions to recreation, arts or community services.

2025 Recipient: Norie Blohm

The Inspirational Award recognizes residents who demonstrate leadership, compassion and a positive influence on others.
2025 Recipient: Hyacinth Singh

The Citizen of the Year Awards recognize individuals who demonstrate outstanding community involvement and leadership. Awards are presented in three categories:

2025 Recipient: Jacob Lamonaca (youth), Malcolm Scott Ching (adult), Amit Bhatt (senior)

Each recipient represents a unique story of commitment and local impact, from athletic achievement and artistic expression to years of volunteer service and everyday leadership. Together, their contributions reflect the strength, diversity and resilience found across Brampton.
