City unveils exciting events and activities for 2024 Winter in the City

BRAMPTON, ON (November, 2024) – The City of Brampton is set to transform into a winter wonderland this season, offering a variety of exciting events and activities for residents of all ages to enjoy. From dazzling light displays, outdoor adventures and serene nature walks to year-round sports and fitness opportunities and community events, Brampton is the place to be for those looking to make the most of the holidays and winter season.

Here is your guide for an enjoyable winter in the city. 

New digital Winter Amenities Map

New this year, Brampton residents and visitors are invited to explore the updated interactive Winter Amenities Map, a digital tool designed to make finding outdoor amenities easier than ever. This expanded resource showcases the City’s array of winter offerings, allowing users to quickly locate and plan visits to enjoy Brampton’s seasonal highlights.

This season brings exciting new updates and additions, including enhancements to the rink at Sesquicentennial Park and new dedicated outdoor shinny hockey and skating rinks at Major William Sharpe Park and Amore Italian Park. Everyone from beginners to seasoned skaters can enjoy these outdoor rinks. Also new this year is a tennis dome at Rosalea Park, opening in the coming weeks, allowing players to stay active and enjoy the sport year-round, regardless of weather conditions.

All outdoor rinks and skating trails will begin to open for the season, starting with Gore Meadows Covered Outdoor Skating Rink on Monday, November 18, weather permitting. Other outdoor rinks citywide will begin to open shortly thereafter. Rinks may temporarily close due to weather or maintenance requirements, residents are encouraged to check rink hours and status updates at brampton.ca/outdoorskating prior to visiting.  

Following a temporary closure to accommodate critical renovations to increase functionality, Brampton’s Gage Park has reopened. The park now features enhanced mechanical equipment and a new ice pad to ensure the skating trail is in optimal condition for future seasons.

Free winter break indoor skating presented by Capital Power

This winter break from December 21 through January 5, Brampton residents can enjoy free indoor skating, presented by Capital Power, at select arenas across the city. Whether you are a novice skater or seasoned on the ice, this family-friendly activity offers a fun way to stay active and enjoy time together, no matter the weather. Thanks to the generous support of Capital Power, skaters of all ages can lace up and glide across the rink at no cost, making it easier for the community to enjoy this activity. Take a trip down Mount Chinguacousy 

Located at Chinguacousy Park, Mount Chinguacousy will be open for snow tubing, snowboarding and skiing as of December 23, weather permitting. Residents are required to bring their own skiing and snowboarding equipment, as rentals are not being offered this season. For all information, including fees, hours of operation, status and registration details, visit brampton.ca/MountChinguacousy

Brampton Food and Toy Drive 

Be a part of the season of giving in a meaningful way! Starting December 2 to 15, drop off non-perishable food items, new unwrapped toys and gift cards at City Hall, and select Brampton Community Centre and Libraries. All items will be donated to the Knights Table in Brampton to support families within the community. Learn more at brampton.ca/foodandtoydrive.  

Winter walks and nature trails  

For those who love the outdoors, Brampton’s parks and most recreational trails are open and maintained year-round. Take in the beauty of winter in the city with nature walks and stay active throughout the season. Brampton Library  

Embrace creativity and culture with the return of the Winter Artist Market, fun and accessible DIY programs, Creativebug’s online arts and crafts classes, and a new live author series at the Library. Enjoy festive workshops like holiday card making, sewing gift bagsCollaging gifts with MeghaDIY wrapping paper and tote designing in the Makerspace. Also at Springdale, on December 11, join us to meet and learn from acclaimed author Tanya Talaga, in conversation about her new book The Knowing with FOLD Executive Director Jael Richardson. Catch a show with Brampton On Stage 

This holiday season, Brampton On Stage presents an array of performances to keep residents and visitors of all ages entertained and inspired. Enjoy favourites such as, A Celtic Christmas by The Celtic Tenors (December 11); Ballet Jörgen’s The Nutcracker (December 17); A Next Generation Leahy (December 21); and more. Celebrate local art and talent this winter season

Downtown Brampton Art Walk

As Brampton’s 50th Birthday draws to a close, the City is marking this milestone with a newly commissioned mural celebrating its history and vibrant community. The mural, Blossoming Brampton by artist Jerry Rugg (aka birdO), is a tribute to five decades of growth and transformation.

The new artwork along with two other pieces in Brampton’s public art collection, will be celebrated with a special art walk through downtown Brampton, and residents are invited to participate. Explore local art and commemorate the journey that has shaped Brampton into the dynamic city it is today. 

Individuals interested in participating in this free event are encouraged to register online to secure their spot before they fill up. Spaces are limited, so register soon to be part of this special celebration!
