September 1: Eighteen drivers have been fined $615 each for using their phones to film a truck rollover on Highway 401 near Belleville, Ontario. On Saturday morning, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were on the scene of a transport truck and tanker rollover near Shannonville Road.
While responding to the accident, OPP officers issued distracted driving tickets to 18 drivers, including two who were driving transport trucks. According to an OPP post on X, the drivers were caught filming the crash as they drove past.
The OPP emphasized that these fines serve as a “$615 reminder” to avoid phone use while driving and focus on the road, highlighting the importance of staying attentive to ensure the safety of emergency responders at crash sites.
