Federal Government invests $3.1 million in Vaughan manufacturers to strengthen Canadian economy

The federal government is investing more than $3.1 million in three Vaughan-based manufacturing companies as part of an effort to strengthen York Region’s economy and support advanced Canadian manufacturing.

The funding, announced Thursday, comes from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario and will be distributed among Sky Acoustics Inc., Letar Inc. and Petra Hygienic Systems International Ltd.

Sky Acoustics will receive up to $1 million to adopt new automated equipment and implement more sustainable production practices. Ottawa says the investment will help bring additional production activity to York Region while improving the company’s ability to serve both domestic and international clients.

Letar Inc., a precision aerospace parts and assembly manufacturer, is set to receive $1.5 million to expand its capacity to produce complex aerospace and defence components. The funding will support the adoption of advanced machining equipment, improving efficiency, material use and competitiveness as demand from original equipment manufacturers continues to grow.

Letar is also benefiting from an $800,000 provincial investment announced in November, part of Ontario’s broader support package for companies impacted by U.S. tariffs.

Petra Hygienic Systems International Ltd., based in Concord, will receive $625,000 to implement a fully automated production system powered by an AI-driven engine. The project will create high-speed, autonomous production lines for personal care and cosmetic products, allowing the company to expand capacity, strengthen local supply chains and create new jobs.

Ali Ehsassi, minister responsible for Canada–U.S. trade, intergovernmental affairs and one Canadian economy, said the investments reflect the federal government’s commitment to helping innovative businesses grow.

“York Region is home to some of southern Ontario’s most innovative businesses, like Letar Inc., Petra and Sky Acoustics Inc., that are driving growth and creating good jobs,” Ehsassi said. “By investing in advanced technologies and automation, we are helping local businesses stay resilient as they build a stronger Canadian economy.”

York Region is Ontario’s third-largest business hub, home to more than 56,000 businesses. The federal government says the latest investment will help the region remain competitive while supporting broader Canadian and international markets.

Ottawa added that it remains committed to backing local innovators as they scale up, adopt new technologies and create high-quality jobs across southern Ontario.
