Heat Warnings Spread Across Southern Ontario, Prairies And Parts Of Maritimes

Heat and air quality warnings are expanding across Canada as extreme temperatures and wildfire smoke continue to affect several regions.

Environment Canada alerts stretched from Regina through Winnipeg, across northern and southern Ontario, and into Quebec. Orange-level alerts, indicating more severe conditions, were issued for areas around Winnipeg and Thunder Bay, as well as parts of northern Quebec.

Southern Manitoba remains in the grip of a multi-day heat event expected to continue through Monday. Temperatures are forecast to exceed 35 C, with humidex values reaching the mid-40s and overnight lows remaining above 18 C. In some areas, conditions could feel as hot as 45 C when humidity is factored in.

Wildfire smoke is also contributing to poor air quality across parts of Ontario. In Oshawa, residents have been advised to consider limiting or rescheduling outdoor activities as smoke drifts into the region from Quebec.

Air quality warnings have also been issued for Whitehorse and Yellowknife.

The latest alerts come amid a particularly hot summer across Canada, while other parts of the world are also experiencing extreme temperatures. Europe recently recorded its hottest June on record.
