Historic Canada Investment Summit Commitments to Build a Stronger Economy – Sonia Sidhu

The Prime Minister convened the first ever Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, which secured nearly $500 billion in new investment commitments to support Canadian businesses, infrastructure, innovation, energy, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence. The Summit brought together investors from nearly 30 countries representing more than $100 trillion in assets, underscoring strong global confidence in Canada’s economy.

“These historic investments demonstrate that Canada is a destination of choice for global capital,” said Sonia Sidhu. “They will help create good-paying jobs, strengthen our infrastructure, and support the industries that will drive Canada’s economic growth for decades to come.”

A key outcome of the Summit was the announcement of the new Productivity Mega Deduction, which will allow businesses to immediately deduct the cost of a much broader range of investments, including software, research and development, computer equipment, fibre-optic infrastructure, transportation assets, and energy projects. The measure is expected to reduce Canada’s marginal effective tax rate on new business investment from approximately 13% to 6.4%, making Canada one of the most competitive jurisdictions in the world for investment.

The Summit also generated major commitments from Canadian pension funds, financial institutions, and investment funds, helping unlock capital for infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, clean energy, critical minerals, AI, and other strategic sectors.

Among the commitments announced:

  • Nearly $100 billion from Canadian pension funds, insurers, and institutional investors to support critical infrastructure and strategic industries;
  • Approximately $325 billion in new financing from Canada’s leading banks to help businesses grow, modernize, and compete globally;
  • More than $14 billion from investment funds to accelerate growth in Canadian companies, infrastructure projects, and emerging sectors such as artificial intelligence.

The Summit also advanced major nation-building initiatives, including a historic $52.5 billion investment in sovereign AI infrastructure in Saskatchewan, new measures to attract private capital, and targeted federal investments in defence technologies and critical mineral development.

“By encouraging businesses to invest, innovate, and grow here at home, these measures will strengthen Canada’s economic resilience and create new opportunities for workers, families, and communities across the country,” added Sonia Sidhu.
