The Republic Day of India was celebrated for the 1st time at the City of Markham on Thursday January 26, 2023. The event was organized & supported by Canadian Academy of Sports, Education & Culture, Rajasthan Association of North America (Canada), Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre, Toronto Arya Samaj (TAS) Vedic Cultural Centre, and Hindu Community of Canada and Voice for Safe Schools.
Honourable Consulate General of India Apoorva Srivastava attended this historic event. She unfurled the Indian National flag, releasing colourful rose petals for the first time in the City of Markham. Small handmade Canadian & Indian flags by Canadians of Indian Origin were distributed to all attendees to mark the occasion. Honourable Defence Minister Anita Anand sent her greetings for this special celebration.
Specials guest Regional Councillor Joe Li on behalf of Mayor Frank Scarpitti, Regional Councillor Alan Ho, Ward 2- Ritch Lau – Markham Councillor and Ward 6- Councillor, Amanda Collucci, Superintendent Wilson #595 on behalf of Chief Macsween of the York Regional Police, Markham Fire Department team on behalf of Fire Chief Adam Grant attended this memorable event.
