Teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has received his first official India jersey, marking a major milestone in a remarkable rise that could soon see him make his international debut.
The 15-year-old batting prodigy was recently named in India’s T20 squad for tours of Ireland and England, as well as the upcoming Asian Games, following a record-breaking season in the Indian Premier League.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on Tuesday showing Sooryavanshi receiving and unboxing his India jersey, describing it as “the moment the nation has been waiting for.”
“Ever since I first held a bat and walked onto a cricket field to practise, I dreamed of this moment. I cannot explain this feeling in words,” Sooryavanshi said in the video.
The young star was seen unveiling the blue India shirt bearing his name and the number 03.
Sooryavanshi is widely expected to make his senior international debut in the first T20 match against Ireland in Belfast on Friday. If selected, he would become one of the youngest cricketers ever to represent India at the international level.
His selection follows a sensational IPL campaign with the Rajasthan Royals, where he dominated opposition bowling attacks and emerged as the tournament’s leading run scorer.
The left-handed batter amassed 776 runs during the season, finishing atop the scoring charts and claiming the Orange Cap. His outstanding campaign included one century and five half-centuries, establishing him as one of the brightest young talents in world cricket.
Sooryavanshi’s rapid ascent has drawn comparisons with Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days in 1989.
