Legendary Music Producer Richard Perry Passes Away at 82

25 Dec: Renowned music producer Richard Perry, celebrated for his work on iconic hits like Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain,” passed away at the age of 82. Perry died on Tuesday in Los Angeles due to cardiac arrest, as confirmed by close friend Daphna Kastner. Remembering him as a “father friend,” Kastner described Perry as generous, sweet, and someone who brought joy to the world.

Richard Perry gained prominence in the 1970s, producing chart-topping records for legendary artists such as Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Art Garfunkel, Carly Simon, and Ringo Starr. He founded Planet Records in the late 1970s, signing notable acts like The Cretones, Pointer Sisters, and Billy Thermal. In 1983, Perry sold the label to RCA Records.

In addition to his prolific career, Perry’s contributions to the music industry were recognized with the prestigious Grammy Trustees Award in 2015. He also produced Rod Stewart’s It Had to Be You: The Great American Songbook, further cementing his legacy as one of the industry’s most influential figures.

Perry had been battling Parkinson’s disease in recent years, as revealed by his personal assistant, Ben McCarthy, who noted that the illness had affected his ability to communicate verbally.

From 2009 to 2017, Perry was in a relationship with actress Jane Fonda, adding a personal dimension to his illustrious life.

Fans and admirers around the world continue to remember Perry for his groundbreaking work, his generosity, and the enduring impact he left on the music industry.
