Man Arrested in Dundas and River Area Carjacking and Shooting Investigation: Faces Attempted Murder and Multiple Other Charges

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in a carjacking and shooting investigation.

On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m., police responded to a shooting call in the Dundas Street East and River Street area.

It is alleged that:

  • a lone male suspect was walking in the roadway when he produced a handgun
  • he approached a vehicle stopped at the red light and tried to open the door
  • he then discharged the handgun which struck the driver causing serious injuries
  • he approached the next vehicle and tried to open the door
  • he discharged the handgun which narrowly missed the driver
  • he approached two more vehicles and tried unsuccessfully to open the doors
  • he approached a fifth vehicle and pointed the handgun at the driver
  • the driver exited the vehicle and the suspect drove it away from the area
  • he drove a short distance and pulled into a parking lot near the Lake Shore Boulevard East and Carlaw Avenue area
  • he exited the vehicle and produced a handgun
  • he approached another vehicle and made a demand for the keys

Officers from 51 and 55 Divisions along with members from the Hold Up Squad, the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force Centralized Shooting Response Team and Forensic Identification Services quickly responded to the area. Officers observed the suspect in the parking lot causing him to flee the area on foot. The suspect was located a short distance away and taken into custody.

It is further alleged that:

  • at the time of the arrest, officers recovered a loaded handgun

Troy Dennis Ledrew, 29, of No Fixed Address, was charged with:

  1. two counts of Attempt Murder
  2. six counts of Robbery With Firearm
  3. two counts of Discharge Firearm With Intent to Endanger Life
  4. Aggravated Assault
  5. six counts of Theft of Motor Vehicle Involving Violence
  6. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  7. Possession Firearm Knowing it’s Possession is Unauthorized
  8. Possession Loaded Firearm
  9. two counts of Possession Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  10. Unauthorized Possession Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  11. two counts of Possess Firearm or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  12. Fail to Comply Probation
  13. Fail to Comply Undertaking

He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, room 106.

Further investigation revealed that Troy Dennis Ledrew was wanted by the Ontario Provincial Police for a similar carjacking and discharge firearm incident that occurred near Highway 401 and Renforth Drive in Mississauga on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
