Microsoft has begun issuing layoff notices to thousands of employees, marking its second major round of job cuts in recent months.
While the company did not disclose the exact number of affected workers, it confirmed the layoffs would amount to less than 4% of its workforce compared to a year ago.
The reductions will impact various teams worldwide, including the sales division and the Xbox gaming business.
“We continue to implement organizational changes necessary to best position the company and teams for success in a dynamic marketplace,” Microsoft said in a statement.
As of June last year, Microsoft employed 228,000 full-time workers. The latest cuts could total around 9,000 jobs. This follows at least three prior layoffs earlier in 2025.
