Over 2,100 attendees joined the fourth annual Trillium Health Partners Hazel McCallion Walk for Health this past Sunday to raise funds to help build The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital
This past Sunday, over 2,100 community members, sponsors, volunteers and Trillium Health Partners staff joined together at Mississauga’s Port Credit Memorial Park, raising an impressive amount of nearly $440,000 to help build Canada’s largest hospital – The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital. The attendees were participating in The Hazel McCallion Walk for Health – an annual fundraising celebration that is now in its fourth consecutive year and still a community favourite.
“Once again, we are absolutely blown away by the way that our community showed up to help us build Canada’s largest hospital,” says Caroline Riseboro, President and CEO of Trillium Health Partners Foundation. “The Hazel McCallion Walk for Health is such a popular event because it really puts the ‘fun’ in fundraising. Guests enjoyed a day outside with family and friends, benefitted from fresh air and exercise, and enjoyed the great entertainment and food provided by our dedicated sponsors and partners.”
Trillium Health Partners serves a community that is expected to grow by a staggering 45% – from 2.2 million to 3.2 million by 2041. The future home of The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital, upon completion, will be nearly triple the size of the current Mississauga Hospital. It will provide more beds in all-private rooms, more operating rooms, shorter wait times, and the largest Emergency Department in Canada. It will include advanced diagnostic imaging facilities and a new pharmacy and clinical laboratory.
Sunday’s Walk for Health kicked off with an entertainment lineup introduced by Emcee G. Wallace: Canada’s national anthem was sung by Trillium Health Partners nurse Pamela Marucot, tunes spun from Z103.5, RBC-sponsored Canadian Olympians Bismark Boateng and Maddy Kelly led warm-ups to the 5 km and 2 km walks, and a drumline played as attendees started the walk.
During the post-walk Family Fun Festival, adults and children alike enjoyed a variety of activities and performances, including drone video from Skyscape Studio, lessons from Magnitude Martial Arts, Urban Cowboy Line Dancing, and Lei’ala Dance School, performances from Hoop You and the adorable and talented Global Pet Foods’ SuperDogs, meeting Princesses from Whimsy Works, and an inflatable obstacle course, bouncers, maze and Spider Jump.
Deputy Mayor Matt Mahoney, Trillium Health Partners President and CEO Karli Farrow, Trillium Health Partners Foundation President and CEO Caroline Riseboro and RBC’s Community Manager, West Mississauga, Sylvia Caughlan also made remarks.
Marketplace vendors included Enwinz Inc., Mind Forward, COOKSMART, NeuPath, TAC Sports, BioPed Footcare & Orthotics, Power of Words Academy, Cogir Senior Living, Turtle Island Camp, and more.
