Monica Singh Soares, a current Municipal Councillor for the Township of Southgate, has announced her
candidacy for Brampton City Council in Wards 7 and 8 in the 2026 municipal election.
A seasoned public-service professional, elected official, and community builder, Monica is entering the race with a clear focus: improving quality of life for residents through competent, qualified, and transparent local government.
Monica brings a strong record of elected leadership, public-service experience, and community-based advocacy. She currently serves in municipal office and has contributed to boards and initiatives connected to public safety, mobility, accessibility, inclusion, recreation, literacy, and community wellbeing. Her leadership has also included advocacy connected to major community priorities, including support for a long-awaited new community school and stronger disability employment awareness across municipalities and organizations.
In addition to public office, Monica is a founder, speaker, and community leader who has spent years helping residents navigate government systems, programs, and services. Before entering politics, she found deep purpose in serving Brampton residents directly, listening to their concerns, answering their calls, and helping them access the support they needed. That experience continues to shape her belief that government should be responsive, effective, and rooted in service.
“Brampton is full of strength, talent, and possibility,” said Monica Singh Soares. “I have seen firsthand that when residents, small businesses, community organizations, and local leaders work together, real
progress is possible. I am running because I believe Wards 7 and 8 deserve competent, qualified, and transparent government that improves everyday quality of life — from safer neighbourhoods and better services to stronger sup pport for the people and organizations already doing great work in our communities. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.”
Monica’s campaign will focus on:
● Safer Neighbourhoods & Stronger Community Wellbeing;
● Better-run Services & Accountable Local Government;
● Smarter Mobility & Practical Solutions to Congestion;
● Support for Families, Small Businesses & Community
Organizations;
● Youth & Young Adult Leadership: Creating Opportunities for
Mentorship, Civic Engagement & Skills Development;
● Balanced Growth that Protects Quality of Life while building a stronger Brampton;
Having spent years serving residents through government systems and community work, Monica says she understands both the challenges residents face and the opportunities already present within local neighbourhoods. Her campaign will emphasize partnership, responsiveness, and the belief that many of the solutions Brampton needs are already within its own people, organizations, and communities.
A wife, mother, elected official, and community-focused leader, Monica believes in leadership that makes people feel seen, heard, valued, and included. With her core philosophy “soaring together,” she is committed to building a Brampton where residents can feel safer, more supported, and more confident that their local government is working for them.
Throughout the campaign, Monica will be meeting residents across Wards 7 and 8 to listen, connect, and share her vision for a Brampton that is safer, better run, more responsive, and more united.
