18 July: Montreal police are investigating after the constituency office of federal MP Marc Miller was vandalized overnight in the Sud-Ouest borough. The incident was reported on Thursday morning when a passerby noticed smashed windows and pink paint sprayed across the front of the building on Saint-Jacques Street, near Atwater Avenue.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) believes the vandalism, which included graffiti labeling Miller a “child killer,” could be linked to pro-Palestinian demonstrations that occurred earlier this week. The protests have criticized the federal government’s efforts regarding family members of Canadian Palestinians trapped in Gaza.
All vandalism, including property damage inside the office, was carried out from outside the building. No injuries were reported among Miller’s staff.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Miller condemned the act as criminal, emphasizing the safety of his team. Federal Tourism Minister Soraya Martinez Ferrrada also condemned the violence, stressing the importance of maintaining a respectful and safe democratic space.
Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet denounced the vandalism as “totally unacceptable,” urging peaceful expression of dissent through voting or social media. Police have not yet made any arrests or identified suspects in connection with the incident.
