New Brunswick Voters Head To Polls For Municipal Elections

Residents across New Brunswick are heading to the polls today to elect mayors, councillors and other local representatives in municipal elections taking place across the province.

Polling stations opened at 10 a.m. and will remain open until 8 p.m., with voters selecting representatives in 77 municipalities as well as members for district education councils.

One of the closely watched races is in Fredericton, where former Liberal MP Jenica Atwin is seeking to become the city’s next mayor. She is facing competition from long-time city councillor Steve Hicks and former construction worker John Reid.

Several of New Brunswick’s largest municipalities are expected to see competitive races, while more than 150 local positions across the province have already been filled by acclamation. Some seats, however, remain without any candidates.
