New Delhi: Arshad Nadeem, who secured Pakistan’s first-ever gold medal in athletics at the Olympics, was honored with a PKR 10 crore cash prize and a new Honda Civic car by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Nadeem set an Olympic record with a javelin throw of 92.97m at the Paris 2024 Games, surpassing Tokyo Games winner Neeraj Chopra, who finished second. CM Nawaz Sharif visited Nadeem’s home in Mian Channu to personally deliver the cheque and car keys.
Nadeem’s coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, also received a PKR 5 million reward. Additionally, the Punjab CM announced plans to improve the infrastructure in Nadeem’s village, including constructing roads to his home, building a hospital, and establishing a university in Mian Channu.
