Police suspect that most of the gold stolen from Toronto Pearson International Airport in 2023 has been smuggled, sold, and melted down overseas. At a Peel Police board meeting on June 21, it was reported that while a small amount of the gold was likely melted at a jewelry shop in the Toronto area, the majority is believed to have been sent abroad.
Detective Sergeant Mike Mavity stated that much of the gold probably went to markets in Dubai or India, where it can be melted down even with serial numbers on it. He added that this likely occurred shortly after the heist.
