Congress MPs from Punjab staged a protest in Parliament on Monday, demanding the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over alleged recruitment examination paper leaks and the reported police action against protesting sanitation workers in Barnala.
The protest was led by Punjab Congress president and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, along with MPs Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Amar Singh, and Sher Singh Ghubaya. The leaders accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of failing to safeguard the interests of students and workers in the state.
Congress leaders alleged that six recruitment examination paper leaks had occurred in Punjab over the past four years, affecting more than five lakh students, and claimed the state government had failed to take responsibility for the incidents.
Speaking to reporters, Congress MP Amar Singh alleged that repeated examination leaks had undermined the future of thousands of candidates.
He also criticized the reported police action against sanitation workers in Barnala, who were protesting for higher wages, and demanded that criminal cases be registered against the officers involved.
The Congress MPs further condemned the alleged use of force against the protesters, accusing the state administration of resorting to excessive police action.
Raja Warring said the protest in Parliament was intended to hold the Punjab government accountable, alleging that protesters, including women, were injured during the reported lathicharge. He reiterated the party’s demand for Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s resignation and called for an FIR to be registered against those responsible for the alleged police action.
