Rajkumar Hirani has confirmed that a third installment in the popular Munna Bhai film series is officially in development, giving fans fresh hope for the return of the beloved duo of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi.
Speaking to the media during promotions for his upcoming OTT series, Hirani revealed that multiple scripts are currently being developed for Munna Bhai 3, while also explaining why the long-discussed project Munna Bhai Chale America never made it to the big screen.
According to Hirani, the teaser for Munna Bhai Chale America was created before the screenplay had been completed. The idea centred on Munna and Circuit travelling to the United States and learning English, but the team was never able to finish the script despite announcing the project.
The filmmaker said the concept was promoted early because producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra wanted to unveil the upcoming film while another project was underway. However, the story ultimately failed to come together, leading the team to shelve the film.
Although Munna Bhai Chale America never materialised, Hirani said work on new stories for the franchise has continued, with the creative team actively developing scripts for Munna Bhai 3.
The Munna Bhai franchise, which began with Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and continued with Lage Raho Munna Bhai, remains one of Bollywood’s most successful and critically acclaimed comedy-drama series. Fans have long awaited the return of Munna and Circuit, making Hirani’s latest confirmation one of the strongest indications yet that the iconic characters could soon return to the big screen.
