Ranveer Singh Contests ₹45-crore ‘Don 3’ Compensation Claim And Says Court Should Decide Dispute If Parties Cannot Settle It

Actor Ranveer Singh has formally contested a ₹45 crore compensation claim filed by Excel Entertainment producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani following his departure from Don 3.

In a formal defence submitted to the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) on August 18, Singh’s legal counsel requested that the trade body abstain from intervening, warning that the actor will initiate formal court proceedings if any adverse order is issued against him.

The dispute stems from Singh’s decision to step away from the project roughly eight months ago after being announced as Shah Rukh Khan’s successor in August 2023. Excel Entertainment sought ₹45 crore to cover pre-production investments, development costs, and financial losses incurred due to the actor’s late-stage exit.

The actor’s legal representatives maintain that IMPPA lacks proper jurisdiction to arbitrate the matter, emphasizing that the disagreement belongs in a court of law. The latest filing follows earlier submissions made to the association by Singh’s father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, as both parties prepare for potential courtroom litigation over the future of the high-profile action franchise.
