“Rob Lantz Assumes Role of Premier in Prince Edward Island, Succeeding Dennis King”

Rob Lantz has officially been sworn in as the 34th premier of Prince Edward Island, succeeding Dennis King, who resigned after serving as the province’s leader since 2019. Lantz, previously the education minister in the Progressive Conservative government, steps into the role after King’s decision to step down.

Lantz had a brief stint as the party’s leader in 2015 but resigned after a failed election bid. He was later elected to the legislature in 2023, marking his return to active politics. In his resignation statement, King cited the intense pressure of the job, including a series of challenges faced by the Island, which took a personal toll on him.

The Progressive Conservative Party, led by King, was re-elected in 2023, securing a majority with 20 of the 27 seats in the legislature. With Lantz now taking charge, the government looks ahead to continuing the work of the Tories in the years to come.
