No casualties were initially reported at the school, while at least one person was injured in overnight attacks on residential and commercial buildings.
A Russian drone struck a school in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district on Thursday, October 1, sparking a fire while children were sheltering inside the building, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Klitschko confirmed that the drone hit the school while students were taking cover in an underground shelter. Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire and assess the damage.
No casualties were initially reported following the strike.
The attack came amid another wave of Russian drone strikes targeting the Ukrainian capital, with residential and commercial buildings also sustaining damage.
Earlier overnight, a separate strike caused a fire on the ground floor of a 16-storey residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district. Another fire broke out at a warehouse in the city’s Obolonskyi district.
At least one person injured during the overnight attacks received medical treatment, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Emergency crews continued responding to the affected locations as officials assessed the extent of the destruction.
The latest attacks follow a significant escalation in Russian aerial operations against Ukraine. According to figures reported by UNITED24 Media, Russia launched 3,177 jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles during September, compared with 2,850 in August.
The October 1 strikes underscore the continuing threat to civilian infrastructure in Ukraine as Russian drone attacks intensify, forcing residents, including schoolchildren, to seek shelter during aerial bombardments.
