Safe Centre of Peel Announces Inaugural Board of Directors

Safe Centre of Peel is pleased to announce its inaugural Board of Directors following its incorporation on August 7, 2026, marking an important milestone in the organization’s commitment to supporting survivors, families, and diverse communities, experiencing intimate partner violence.

The inaugural Board brings together leaders with extensive experience in community leadership, law, equity, governance, and community safety. The Board members are:

 Sumeeta Kohli, Chair — Sumeeta Kohli is an accomplished community leader, entrepreneur, and business executive with a strong track record of impact across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. With over two decades of experience in community leadership, board governance, and organizational development, Sumeeta has led initiatives that advance equity, civic engagement, and sustainable growth.

 Angela Carter, Vice Chair — Angela Carter has spent more than four decades listening deeply and intentionally to the voices of communities too often unheard. She sits at a myriad of decision-making tables: health system planning bodies, governance boards, research collaborations and policy committees, challenging systems to remove barriers that hinder the progress of equity denied groups.

 Jennifer Gold, LL.B., KC, Secretary/Treasurer — Jennifer Gold is the Principal Lawyer of Gold Family Law and an elected Bencher of the Law Society of
Ontario. She has practiced family law since being called to the bar in 2002. A recognized leader in the legal profession, Jennifer served as president of the
Women’s Law Association of Ontario and is a former Director of the Board of Legal Aid Ontario.

 Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich, Director — Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich began his policing career in 2000, achieving the rank of Superintendent with Halton
Regional Police Service. In 2021, he was instrumental in the establishment of a ground-breaking partnership with the Safe Centre of Peel to create an Intimate Partner Violence unit to meet the needs of Peel’s diverse community.

“The establishment of our inaugural Board of Directors marks an important milestone in building a strong foundation for the Safe Centre. We are bringing together diverse perspectives, expertise, and a shared commitment to creating a more integrated and compassionate response to intimate partner violence. I’m honoured to serve alongside such dedicated leaders as we help advance a vision where survivors and families can access the support they need, with dignity and care.”
— Sumeeta Kohli, Chair, Safe Centre of Peel
