Beijing’s tallest building sustained visible damage on Friday after reports emerged that a small aircraft crashed into the skyscraper in the Chinese capital’s central business district.
Images and videos circulating on social media appeared to show debris from a small aircraft near the CITIC Tower, also known as China Zun. While the footage matched the location, its authenticity could not be independently verified before it was removed from online platforms.
According to sources, a small airplane struck the 528-metre (1,732-foot) tower, the tallest building in Beijing.
Photographs from the scene appeared to show broken glass or a hole on one side of the skyscraper.
Emergency crews, including police officers, firefighters and ambulances, were seen outside the building following the incident.
Chinese authorities have not yet issued an official statement confirming the crash or detailing its cause. No information about injuries or casualties was immediately available.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
