Marvel Studios’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has created box office history in India, becoming the biggest Hollywood opening of all time.
The film earned an estimated ₹72.44 crore gross (₹60.60 crore net) on its opening day, surpassing previous Hollywood record holders Avatar: The Way of Water (₹40 crore net) and Avengers: Endgame (₹53 crore net).
The record-breaking debut came without preview shows or block bookings, making the opening even more significant. Industry analysts say the film also outperformed the opening-day collections of several major Indian releases, including Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and nearly matched the opening of Kantara: Chapter 1.
According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film had collected approximately ₹37.57 crore net by 8 p.m. on Friday, with expectations that the final first-day total would comfortably cross the ₹40 crore mark for Friday’s business alone. With little competition at the box office, trade analysts are projecting a ₹150–200 crore opening weekend in India.
The film has also generated strong online discussion. Many fans praised its emotional storytelling, performances and character development, with several calling it one of the strongest Spider-Man films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, reactions were mixed on some aspects of the film. While some viewers described it as a refreshing new direction for the franchise, others felt it lacked the emotional stakes and climactic impact of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Some also expressed disappointment with the film’s post-credit scene, saying it offered only a modest tease for future MCU storylines.
The film features one post-credit scene, with no mid-credit sequence, ending with the message “Spider-Man Will Return,” confirming Tom Holland’s web-slinger will continue to play a major role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
