Bollywood actor Taapsee Pannu has opened up about her unconventional career choices, saying she has deliberately avoided the pressure to make every project appear commercially viable and instead placed her faith in strong stories and audiences.
Over the years, Pannu has established herself as a prominent performer in female-led and character-driven films. Her projects, including Pink, Thappad, Saand Ki Aankh, Badla, Haseen Dillruba and Mulk, have frequently featured complex and prominent female characters rather than conventional supporting roles.
Reflecting on her career, Pannu said she credits herself for being willing to take risks on projects that may not initially be viewed as commercially attractive.
“The credit that I give to myself is to take the plunge into doing something that people conventionally do not think is commercially viable,” Pannu said.
She added that she does not want to fall into the trap of ensuring every venture looks financially successful “on paper,” instead choosing to take a “leap of faith” when she believes in the quality of a project and its ability to connect with audiences.
However, Pannu stressed that the success of female-led and unconventional films cannot be attributed to actors alone. She said filmmakers, crews and audiences all play a role in supporting stories that challenge traditional industry expectations.
At the same time, she argued that actors carry a responsibility to trust unconventional scripts and take risks on projects that may help expand the types of stories being produced.
Pannu also recently returned to social media after maintaining a relatively low digital profile for nearly a year. The actor said her decision to step away from the constant online cycle was driven by personal reasons and a desire to focus on life beyond social media.
After reconnecting with her followers, Pannu asked audiences what type of content they would like to see from her, though she has acknowledged having mixed feelings about the expectations associated with maintaining an active digital presence.
