Toronto police are investigating after a 46-year-old woman was hit by a GO train at Long Branch Station on Tuesday.
Police say the woman was walking near the edge of the platform around 8:15 a.m. when an express train, which wasn’t stopping at the station, struck her. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Police are still looking into what happened and reminded transit users to stay back from the platform’s edge and watch for incoming trains.
Metrolinx also stressed the importance of rail safety, noting that ongoing construction at the station has led to added safety measures. These include slowing down passing trains, adding more staff at the station, and increasing safety signs and communication. They encouraged customers to always stay behind the yellow line to ensure a safe distance from passing trains.
