Toronto Public Health Warns Public To Stay Away From Raccoons And Other Wild Animals

Toronto’s urban wildlife is incredibly diverse, with thousands of unique species calling this city home. Our parks, green spaces, and ravines provide an ideal habitat for many animals including coyotes, foxes, raccoons, deer, skunks, opossums, squirrels and more than 300 species of birds.

It’s very normal to encounter wild animals in the city. It’s important to keep a safe distance as they can bite, scratch, or potentially transmit diseases such as rabies to people and pets. We encourage you to learn more about their behaviour and how to co-exist peacefully so that sharing our space is safe and enjoyable for all.

If you come across an animal that appears to be sick or injured, please report it to 311.
