NOVEMBER 12, 2024 (Etobicoke, Ontario) – Today, Trillium Health Partners begins major renovations at the Queensway Health Centre as part of its Trillium HealthWorks project, the largest investment in health care infrastructure renewal in Canadian history. With modern diagnostic equipment, upgraded oncology pharmacy spaces and renovations to the Biomedical Engineering department to deliver top-quality care, these renovations will meet the evolving needs of a rapidly growing community.

MPPs Christine Hogarth, Rudy Cuzzetto, Deepak Anand and Sheref Sabawy joined Trillium Health Partners’ CEO Karli Farrow to highlight how this important investment, along with the new patient tower at the future home of The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre, will pave the way for a new kind of health care.

Key upgrades to the Queensway Health Centre include:
- State-of-the-art equipment for the Cator Family Diagnostic Imaging Program, including new MRI, CT and fluroscopy units.
- This new equipment will improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosis and treatment and allow Trillium Health Partners to provide 25% more MRI scans with shorter wait times for patients.
- Improved spaces and experience for patients, families and support services.
- An upgraded oncology pharmacy to meet modern standards and enable the delivery of top-quality care to patients receiving cancer treatment.
- The expansion of the Biomedical Engineering department, where the hospital’s medical equipment is maintained, will support and accommodate the hospital’s growing capacity.
QUICK FACTS
- Trillium Health Partners provides almost 20,000 ultrasounds annually at the Queensway Health Centre.
- With the addition of the new MRI at the Queensway Health Centre, the total number of MRIs across Trillium Health Partner’s three hospital sites will increase to five.
- Currently, 24,000 MRI scans are provided to patients annually across all Trillium Health Partner’s hospital sites. The new MRI machine will allow for an increase of up to 30,000 scans for patients every year.
- The contract for the MRI renovation project has been awarded to PCL Constructors Canada Inc. and the CT, fluoroscopy and ultrasound renovations have been awarded to Newgen Construction Corporation.
- The renovation project is scheduled for completion by 2026.
- The future home of The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre will include a new tower with over 350 beds, all in private rooms, to increase the capacity for care in the community.
