TRILLIUM HEALTH PARTNERS SECURES FINANCIAL CLOSE, LAUNCHING CONSTRUCTION OF CANADA’S LARGEST HOSPITAL IN SUMMER 2025

The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children will meet unprecedented health care demand, reimagine the future of care and bolster the local economy

Mississauga, ON – Yesterday, Trillium Health Partners (THP), together with Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and ED+PCL Healthcare Partners, reached financial close on The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children, paving the way for construction to begin in Summer 2025. Following an open and competitive procurement process, ED+PCL Healthcare Partners has been awarded the $13.9 billion contract to design, build, finance, and maintain the new hospital, which will meet the needs of one of the country’s most diverse and rapidly growing communities. Already one of the busiest hospitals in the country, Trillium Health Partners is projected to face more demand for health care than any other Ontario hospital over the next 20 years.

Designed as a digitally connected hub of care, The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children will link patients across primary care, home care, long-term care, and the community. This future model of care uses technology, data, and clinical insight to provide more proactive, personalized, and coordinated care while maximizing value.

“The Peter Gilgan Mississauga Hospital and the Shah Family Hospital for Women and Children will serve as state-of-the-art hubs for advanced, digitally connected care – seamlessly linked across the health system, from family doctors to home and long-term care – to put people at the centre,” said Karli Farrow, President and CEO, Trillium Health Partners. “Through deep collaboration and shared purpose between THP, IO and ED+PCL Healthcare Partners, we are prioritizing the patient and provider experience while maximizing efficiency and cost effectiveness.”

This project uses a progressive public-private partnership (P3) approach, with ED+PCL Healthcare Partners working collaboratively with IO, Trillium Health Partners, and the Ministry of Health (MOH) to deliver a modern, efficient hospital that meets the highest standards of patient care while minimizing costs and sharing risk.

This redevelopment is also expected to bolster the local economy and strengthen Mississauga’s position as a leader in attracting and retaining business investment. Combined with the expansion at the future home of The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre, these projects will attract 2,400 new health care professionals and over 400 new physicians adding an estimated $1 billion or more to Mississauga’s local economy over 10 years.

With pre-construction activities, including demolition, utility relocation, and road realignment already well underway, substantial project completion is targeted for 2033 with transition to hospital operations targeted for 2034.
