Trump Slams Chrystia Freeland’s Resignation Amid Political Turmoil for Trudeau, Calls Her Exit ‘Toxic’ and ‘Not Missed’ as Tariff Tensions Escalate

17th December 2024: President-elect Donald Trump has criticized Canadian Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland following her resignation, calling her “totally toxic” and stating that she “will not be missed.”

In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “The Great State of Canada is stunned as the Finance Minister resigns, or was fired, from her position by Governor Justin Trudeau. Her behavior was totally toxic, and not at all conducive to making deals which are good for the very unhappy citizens of Canada.”

Freeland’s resignation comes amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Canada after Trump threatened to impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian products entering the U.S. As Canada’s largest trading partner, the U.S. accounts for 75% of Canadian exports. Any new tariffs could deliver a major blow to Canada’s economy, which relies heavily on international trade.

Freeland’s departure has further intensified political pressure on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, whose leadership is already facing challenges amid economic uncertainty and growing dissatisfaction.
