Vance Kong, 48, Of Whitby Arrested In Fatal Collision On Gardiner Expressway East Of Dufferin Street- Toronto Police 

July 4: In the early hours of Thursday, July 4, 2024, at 2:04 a.m., Toronto police responded to a serious motor vehicle collision on the eastbound Gardiner Expressway, just east of Dufferin Street.

Incident Details:

  • Two vehicles were traveling eastbound on the Gardiner Expressway when a high-speed black Audi sedan rear-ended a KIA sedan.
  • The KIA sedan, carrying five occupants, sustained severe damage. Three passengers were hospitalized, while two remained uninjured.
  • A 40-year-old female passenger in the KIA was transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
  • A 20-year-old female passenger suffered life-altering injuries, and a two-year-old child was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Witnesses reported seeing the driver of the black Audi fleeing the scene on foot, heading towards Spadina Avenue on the elevated portion of the expressway.

Suspect Arrested: Following a police investigation, the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Vance Kong of Whitby, was located and arrested. He faces multiple charges, including:

  • Impaired Operation Causing Death
  • Impaired Operation Causing Bodily Harm
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Death
  • Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm
  • Failure to Stop at Accident Scene Causing Death
  • Failure to Stop at Accident Scene Causing Bodily Harm

Suspect Description: Vance Kong is described as 5’6″ tall, weighing 161 lbs, and was wearing a blue polo shirt, light-colored shorts, and light-colored shoes at the time of the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to gather more information about the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
