Calgary officials have declared a local state of emergency due to a severe water crisis, which is anticipated to persist for another five weeks. Deborah Yedlin, the president and CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, has expressed significant concerns about the impact this crisis could have on the upcoming Calgary Stampede. Yedlin stated, “We are deeply concerned that the City of Calgary has entered a State of Emergency caused by the deterioration of Calgary’s main water feeder pipe, particularly given the issues will take an additional three to five weeks to resolve.”
The Calgary Stampede, often promoted as the “Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth,” is scheduled to take place from July 5 to 14. The event is expected to attract thousands of visitors and numerous animals, which could further strain the already critical water supply situation. The extended timeline for resolving the water crisis has raised alarms about the potential challenges and disruptions that might affect this major event.
