Each year, following the excitement and spending of Black Friday, the giving community comes together for GivingTuesday, a global movement to make a difference through philanthropy.
This year, William Osler Health System Foundation (Osler Foundation) is setting out to raise $20,000 on
GivingTuesday to fund the purchase of 40 new wheelchairs for William Osler Health System (Osler).
Wheelchairs are one of the most used pieces of equipment in a hospital. Their frequent use means they need to be replaced or repaired on a regular basis and as the number of patients who seek care at Osler continues to grow, so does the demand for new wheelchairs. The cost of each new wheelchair is $500, which must be funded by the community.
To encourage the community to give generously, John Esplen and The Humberview Group is matching all
donations to Osler Foundation—up to $1 million—until December 31.
“GivingTuesday is the official kickoff to the giving season and there’s no better time to support our community hospitals. Not only will your donation help provide much-needed wheelchairs for Osler’s hospitals, your impact will be doubled, thanks to the time-limited matching gift from John Esplen and The Humberview Group,” said Ken Mayhew, President and CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation.
“Your gift—no matter how large or small—will go twice as far toward the purchase of these chairs, which we have all used and needed at some point and are used in literally every area of the hospital. Every donation will make a difference!”
In Ontario, 100% of equipment in a hospital must be funded by the community, along with a portion of
