Y Media Big Shot: Maple Leafs fall to Stars 4-1, extend losing streak to three games amid struggles on both ends

15th Jan: The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena, ending their seven-game winning streak against Dallas, which had lasted since February 2020.

This marks the first time in the 2024-25 season that the Leafs have lost three consecutive games in regulation, with a total score of 13-4 against Dallas, Vancouver, and Carolina. The team struggled throughout the game, and some boos were heard from the crowd during the third period.

Auston Matthews, Steven Lorentz, and Mitch Marner combined for the Leafs’ only goal, but Lorentz was moved back to the fourth line before the second period ended.

Dallas took control with two power-play goals, including one from Matt Duchene early in the third period. Another shot by Duchene deflected off teammate Logan Stankoven and past goalie Joseph Woll, sealing the Leafs’ fate.

The Leafs struggled with penalty killing, allowing two power-play goals in one game for just the fourth time this season and the first at home. Despite hitting the post several times, the Leafs couldn’t convert those chances into goals. The loss ended any hope for a rally, and the Leafs’ poor performance on special teams played a key role in their defeat.
