LAHORE — Daryl Mitchell produced a stellar all-round performance to help Lahore Qalandars clinch a commanding five-wicket victory over Multan Sultans at the Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.
Chasing a challenging target of 186, the Qalandars sealed the win with six balls to spare, thanks largely to Mitchell’s blistering 64 off 38 balls and Sikandar Raza’s unbeaten 40 from just 21 deliveries.
The run chase got off to a shaky start when opener Mohammad Naeem was dismissed early by Josh Little, leaving Lahore at 12/1. Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique then steadied the innings with a 33-run stand before Fakhar departed after a quickfire 28.
Abdullah continued the fight, forging a 49-run partnership with Mitchell, but Multan’s Ubaid Shah turned the game briefly by removing both Shafique and Sam Billings in the 12th over, reducing Lahore to 95/4.
However, Mitchell and Raza launched a brutal counterattack, adding 89 crucial runs for the fifth wicket and taking the match away from Multan’s grasp. Mitchell hammered four fours and four sixes during his knock before falling in the penultimate over. Raza stayed till the end, guiding the team to their third win of the tournament.
Earlier, Multan Sultans had posted 185/3, riding on an unbeaten 115-run stand between skipper Mohammad Rizwan and Kamran Ghulam. Rizwan top-scored with 76 off 48 balls, while Ghulam contributed an aggressive 52 off 31. Yasir Khan also chipped in with a brisk 24.
For Qalandars, Tom Curran, Haris, and Mitchell each claimed a wicket. Despite a disciplined effort, Sultans’ bowlers, led by Ubaid Shah’s two wickets, couldn’t defend the total under pressure from Mitchell and Raza’s fireworks.
The victory keeps Lahore Qalandars’ playoff hopes alive as they continue their PSL 10 campaign with renewed momentum.
