Bayern’s Jamal Musiala Suffers Serious Leg Injury in Club World Cup Clash with PSG

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala sustained a severe left leg injury and was forced to exit Saturday’s Club World Cup quarterfinal against Paris Saint-Germain.

The injury occurred late in the first half during a 50-50 collision with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Due to the graphic nature of the incident, replays were withheld from the big screens at Mercedes Benz Stadium. The 22-year-old German international had been in strong form heading into the match, having scored three goals in the tournament—just one behind top scorers Ángel Di María and Marcos Leonardo. His overall season tally stood at 20 goals, including 12 in the Bundesliga and three in the Champions League. Musiala’s injury halted play moments before halftime. As medical staff tended to him on the field, the referee signaled for the break.

Serge Gnabry took his place at the start of the second half, with the match still scoreless.
