The Council of Canada Masters Cricket (CCMC) recently brought together players, volunteers, supporters, sponsors, and the broader CCMC Family for its Healthy Aging Through Cricket Celebration Event, recognizing the player’s successes from previous international tournaments and World Cup competitions, organization’s journey since inception, volunteers engagement support while looking ahead to Canada’s hosting of the IMC Over-60s Cricket World Cup 2026.
The event recognized outstanding performances, volunteer contributions, and participation in domestic and international tournaments from 2015 through 2026, while celebrating the remarkable growth of seniors cricket across Canada.
Since its inception, CCMC has evolved into Canada’s leading organization dedicated to seniors cricket development, serving more than 500 cricketers nationwide and creating opportunities for participation across the 40+, 50+, 55+, 60+, and 70+ age groups.
The celebration showcased CCMC’s expanding national and international footprint, including participation in major tournaments in Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and New Zealand, as well as community initiatives such as the Ontario Summer League, charity cricket events, and partnerships supporting Humber River Health Foundation and Cancer Warriors Canada.
Addressing attendees, CCMC President Akshay Pandya reinforced the organization’s vision of healthy aging through sport.
“Cricket is much more than a game. It keeps people physically active, mentally engaged, socially connected, and gives them a continued sense of purpose and belonging. Every time a senior player walks onto the field, we are demonstrating that healthy aging is not just possible—it is achievable through community, friendship, and active living.”
A key highlight of the evening was an update on preparations for the IMC Over-60s Cricket World Cup 2026, which Canada will host from August 9–23, 2026, with the Opening Ceremony taking place on August 8, 2026.
The tournament is expected to welcome 14 nations and more than 300 senior athletes, officials, and supporters from around the world, making it one of the largest international seniors sporting events ever hosted in Canada.
Beyond the competition, the World Cup is expected to generate significant tourism, community engagement, volunteer participation, and economic activity while showcasing Canada’s multicultural spirit, hospitality, and commitment to active aging.
CCMC also acknowledged the invaluable guidance and support of its volunteers, supporters, municipal partners, public leaders, sponsors, and community organizations whose dedication has helped shape seniors cricket into a thriving national movement.
As preparations continue for the 2026 World Cup, CCMC is inviting businesses, community leaders, sponsors, and volunteers to join its mission of creating a lasting legacy for seniors sport in Canada.
“Hosting the world is about more than cricket,” added Pandya. “It is an opportunity to showcase Canada, celebrate healthy aging, strengthen communities, and inspire future generations to stay active, connected, and engaged throughout life.”
