The federal government has announced $34 million in funding for 141 projects aimed at helping communities across Canada prepare for and respond to the effects of climate change.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Julie Dabrusin announced the funding Wednesday in Halifax, with 128 communities nationwide set to benefit from projects focused on challenges including extreme heat and flooding.
Halifax will receive nearly $800,000 to introduce cooling measures in city parks. The initiative is intended to provide residents with greater relief during periods of extreme heat.
The Municipality of Waterloo will receive $650,000 for measures designed to protect residents in housing from extreme heat.
In Quebec, another community will receive $1 million for measures aimed at reducing the risk and impact of flooding.
