Liverpool Star Diogo Jota and Brother Killed in Fiery Car Crash in Spain

Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva have died in a car crash in Spain after the Lamborghini they were traveling in veered off the road and burst into flames, police confirmed Thursday.

The Spanish Civil Guard told The Associated Press that the 28-year-old Portuguese forward and his 25-year-old brother were found dead near the city of Zamora in northwestern Spain.

The tragic accident occurred shortly after midnight on an isolated stretch of highway about an hour west of Zamora. Authorities said there were no other vehicles involved and that the brothers were alone in the car at the time. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with early reports suggesting a blown tire may have led to the vehicle losing control during an attempted overtake.

Video footage shared by Spanish media shows tire marks veering off the road, broken guardrails, and the charred remains of the car surrounded by scorched vegetation.

Jota’s death comes just weeks after he married longtime partner Rute Cardoso. The couple shared three children, the youngest born last year. Following his wedding, Jota had posted on social media: “Yes to forever.”

Jota had recently completed a successful season with Liverpool, playing a key role in the team’s Premier League title win. His final match was on June 8, when he represented Portugal in the Nations League final against Spain in Munich.

Liverpool FC and fans around the world are mourning the sudden loss of a beloved player and devoted family man.
